Visit Edinburgh

If you planning to explore The Whisky Coast via Scotland's capital, please take time to visit The Scotch Whisky Experience, a five star visitor attraction on Edinburgh's Royal Mile. Here you you will learn lots about Scotland's national drink with high-tech exhibits, a barrel ride and every touring visitor will get the chance to taste a dram of scotch surrounded by a whisky collection comprising over 3,000 bottles.

Visit Glasgow

All the west coast of Scotland's whisky producing towns and islands are accessible from Glasgow, so plan your Whisky Coast itinerary whilst sampling a dram in one of the city's top whisky bars. 

The Clydeside Distillery, will be open late 2017, and will be the first Glasgow distillery in over 100 years. It will celebrate the River Clyde's whisky heritage as well as producing a distinctive single malt Scotch whisky.

Auchentoshan Distillery is a Lowland distillery that sits on the banks of the River Clyde and is only a short journey from Glasgow's city centre.

Whilst not a coastal distillery, if you've got time on your return visit to Glasgow, we would encourage you to make time for a visit to Glengoyne Distillery.

West Highland Line

Travel one of the Great Scenic Rail Journeys, and explore Scotland’s west coast and islands with Scotrail's 'Spirit of Scotland' travel pass. Offering unlimited train travel and journeys by coach, bus and ferry, you can take the world-class 'West Highland Line' to either Oban, Fort William or Mallaig, where you will sample the best of Highland, Island and Islay whiskies.

Explore Argyll and the Isles

Visit Oban

The town of Oban grew up around its distillery and its tall chimney is a useful landmark. Oban malt is popular all over the world, so visit the 'Gateway to the Isles' for yourself and pop over to Tobermory on the Isle of Mull.

Visit Campbeltown

Formerly known as the 'Whisky Capital of the World', Campbeltown on the undiscovered Kintyre peninsula of Scotland, is a must-do pilgrimage for whisky lovers, as it is a magical area for sandy beaches, Atlantic breakers, world-class golf and beautiful scenery of an undiscovered part of Scotland.

Isle of Islay & Jura

Islay is a beautiful Hebridean island full of tradition. Famed the world over for its peaty malts has distilleries in stunning coastal locations. Bowmore, one of Scotland’s oldest distilleries, is a great place to see traditional whisky-making from the malting of the barley to the peat-fired kilns.

It’s well worth crossing the water to visit the tiny Isle of Jura distillery as well.

Visit Arran 

The charming Isle of Arran Distillery and Visitor Centre is a must visit, but the Taste of Arran is hard to miss as many of Arran’s hotels, restaurants and pubs will have Arran Single Malt on the menu. 

A second new, distillery is due to open in 2018 but has not yet been named.

Visit Lochaber and Ardnamurchan

At the heart of the Outdoor Capital of the UK lies Ben Nevis Distillery in Fort William. The Distillery produces a range of quality single and blended malt whiskies, and visitors may be lucky to see some Highland Cattle grazing quietly outside.

Isle of Harris Distillery

The Isle of Harris Distillery is also known as The Social Distillery, offering a warm welcome to all in the heart of Harris. Open six days a week with regular tours, there is a public canteen offering fresh local produce and a shop full of local products Isle of Harris Gin.

Opened in October 2015 we are currently making a very special Isle of Harris Gin with locally gathered Sugar kelp and distilling spirit for our first whisky 'The Hearach' Single Malt.

Abhainn Dearg Distillery

Has produced the first single Malt whisky from Lewis in the Outer Hebrides for almost 200 years.
