The global whisky community have used the power of social media, and local events to celebrate and share their passion for Scotland's iconic drink.
The most notable movement, World Whisky Day, was founded by passionate ambassador Blair Bowman in 2012 when he was still a student. Blair noticed a major gap in the calendar and decided to introduce an day of international celebration for the world's favourite whisky, scotch.
World Whisky Day, which takes place on the third Saturday of May each year, invites everyone to try a dram and celebrate the water of life. Events take place all over the globe, and have increased in number over the years.
In 2015, Edinburgh-based Hot Rum Cow, a drinks magazine took over the reigns of World Whisky Day to encourage all participants to all share good whisky, good company and have good time.
More recently, on February 10th 2017, Diageo launched International Scotch Day, #LoveScotch, a new global celebration of Scotch Whisky,
To mark the most important spirits in the company portfolio, Diageo opened its distillery visitor centres and archives to the public, free of charge.
