In a global first, Tomatin Distillery has revealed the Tomatin Whisky Barrel Aged Black Tea in a unique partnership with the UK's leading loose tea experts, eteaket.
The limited edition Tomatin Whisky Tea is a beautiful blend of black teas from Assam, Ceylon and Fujian, which are placed in a used ex-Bourbon barrel to infuse with the incredible flavours resulting from the maturation of whiskies such as the Tomatin Legacy brand.
This is the first time that the distillery, which has been creating whisky in the Highlands since 1897, has ever brewed up such a unique batch. The innovative whisky barrel aged tea is a perfectly balanced combination of the finest black teas, elevated by aging the tea with the mellow and fruity aromas from within a huge used Bourbon barrel.
Jennifer Masson, Marketing Manager at Tomatin said: "There have been plenty of whisky flavoured teas before, but never has there been a tea that has been aged in a barrel in this way. It was the unique nature of the project, coupled with the interesting synergies of both our whisky and eteaket's tea blending process that made us think that this could be a softer way for people to enjoy Tomatin.
"Following several trials – and a few raised eyebrows from our distillery men – we succeeded in producing a product which matched up to eteaket’s vision. The limited edition Tomatin Whisky Tea by eteaket retails at £6.95 and comes in a 50g distinctive turquoise tin (approximately 20 servings). It is available in the distillery, the eteaket Concept Store on Rose Street in Edinburgh and via their online shop.
